Laura James (Atlanta, Georgia) is the Associate Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Operations at Georgia Gwinnett College, Lawrenceville, Georgia. She began her career in student affairs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she gained key leadership skills, and participated in the BRIDGES program for women in academic leadership. Laura went on to hold leadership positions as senior administrator, Department of Family Medicine, (Morehouse School of Medicine); interim vice president for Academic Affairs (Atlanta Metropolitan College); associate professor/dual enrollment, (Georgia Perimeter College); interim assistant director (Emory University); and senior executive director (Office of P-16 Initiatives, Board of Regents, University System of Georgia). Laura serves on various community boards, and is a leader in cancer-related policy initiatives on the state and national levels. Laura holds honors degrees in speech communication from California State University, Los Angeles (BA), and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (MA). She is fluent in Spanish, graduating with honors from the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, California, while serving as a linguist in the US Marine Corps.
